There is a very elitist-yet-stupid disconnect on the left, where all politics are theoretical. The results of policy are generally perceived impossible to quantity outside of anecdotes, yet why measure them when you "know" you are doing the right thing, anyway?

I genuinely do not believe most American leftists even recognize the impact of their own policies. It's a childish outlook. You vote for all the crap in California or Illinois or New York, because it's righteous. Five years down the road, you look up and realize "hey, look! We could afford this 3,800 square foot house in South Carolina for less than we pay for our current aging 1,800 square foot home... Let's go!" Sure, they may be afraid of having to coexist with people who don't think like them, but they can create their own enclave of the like-minded.

Eventually, more and more of them settle in, and vote for the same policies that made them leave the blue state. Because they are righteous. And because they never bothered to examine what the tangible effects of those policies were in the first place. Ignorance is virtue-soaked bliss.
